How to Use Element Fire Extinguishers to Put Out a Car Fire
Car fires can start unexpectedly, from an electrical short circuit, spilled fuel, or an overheated component. Having the correct tool nearby may mean the difference between a little scare and a complete loss. The Element E50 and E100 fire extinguishers were designed to make those moments safer and less stressful. Very compact and lightweight, these extinguishers require zero maintenance and offer years of protection without the bulk and mess associated with traditional fire extinguishers.
When confronted with a car fire, remain calm and prioritize safety. Pull over to a safe spot, turn off the engine, and ensure everyone exits the vehicle immediately. Stand far away from the traffic and maintain a safe distance from the flames. Consider not opening the hood completely if you suspect the fire is in the engine compartment, as sudden oxygen could cause the flames to flare up.

Once everyone is cleared from the vehicle, grab your Element extinguisher. The E50 and E100 are 80% smaller than a traditional fire extinguisher, meaning they can be kept almost anywhere: under a car seat, in the glove box, or mounted inside the cabin, and they’re always ready. No pressure gauge to check, no pin to pull. Simply remove the yellow cap, grip the device by its black plastic handle, remove the striker from the bottom, and scratch the tip firmly, almost like lighting a flare. The gas will be released in a steady stream that extinguishes the fire.
The vapor from the Element E50 will last 5 times longer than your average extinguisher, while the E100 will discharge for over a minute and a half. To extinguish, move towards the fire, enveloping the flames with the vapor. You do not need to sweep side to side or aim at the base. By enveloping the origin of the fire-wiring, spilled fuel, or engine bay, the potassium-based gas interrupts the chemical reaction that sustains a fire, rather than covering it with residue. So it leaves no trace, does not corrode metal, and does not harm any sensitive electronics beneath the hood.Â
One of the easiest ways to protect yourself and your passengers from unexpected emergencies is to keep an Element E50 or E100 in your car. They are easy to store and perform brilliantly when it counts, and are much less messy compared to traditional extinguishers. Those seconds that count when every moment matters could be the time when having an Element extinguisher within reach matters the most.
